Westbury Pool: A Night of Whispers Footsteps & One Final Word

Built in 1887, Westbury Pool has seen generations of swimmers, galas, and community life.. but this weekend, it had a very different kind of energy. We stepped in after hours to investigate - and what started as a quiet evening quickly unravelled into something far more emotional and unexpected.

Vigil One: Alice, George & the Gallery

We began in the viewing gallery, and within minutes, our equipment came to life. K2 spikes were consistent, and some guests (who were spiritual mediums) started to feel two distinct presences: a young girl, referred to by the names Alice or Alison, and an older male figure, who seemed to linger with a sense of routine and duty - possibly a caretaker. He was described as carrying or pushing a mop and seemed particularly interested in the equipment.

One guest used dowsing rods to try and track spirit movement, and we followed this with thermal imaging. That’s when things got interesting - we caught a sudden heat signature on an empty chair, one that hadn’t been used all night. Then, using the SLS camera, we saw a stick figure appear in the same area, moving in response to questions. That level of interaction doesn’t happen every night.

Upstairs Offices: Alice Smithenson & the Sound of Running Feet

After that, we split into two smaller groups and moved into the offices upstairs. One group set up a K2 next to a sensitive guest, and it continued to spike in response to what they were picking up. The name Alice Smithenson came through clearly - possibly the same Alice from earlier. She described how she used to dance here, back was the pool was boarded over and used as a dance hall. This detail wasn’t known to any of us at the time, which made the moment feel even more significant. Some guests reported experiencing sudden cold spots and tingling sensations that disappeared just as quickly as they appeared. And just as we were packing up the session, we heard the unmistakable sound of running footsteps on the stairs.

We opened the door immediately. No one was there. The other group emerged too - they thought it had been us. A complete check confirmed that no one had used the stairs. Whatever we heard, it wasn’t coming from the living.

Vigil Two: Empty Showers and Unfinished Business

We started our second vigil in the female changing rooms, but the energy felt flat. We tried singing nursery rhymes and old-time songs to get the activity going, but nothing really took hold. So, we moved into the men’s changing rooms, and the shift was immediate.

We set up the laser grid, K2 meters, cat balls, and the Hexcom, focusing mainly on the shower area, which gave a few of us an off feeling from the moment we entered.

One team member picked up on multiple male spirits, described as nude (yep, still bathing, apparently) and somewhat amused by the presence of women in the space. Some of use felt our faces being touched, and a clear cold spot formed in front of where two of us were sitting.

When two guests stepped into the shower area, a cold breeze passed through - noticeable, distinct, and never repeated. We recorded an EVP session, and when we played it back, there was a faint whistle we hadn’t heard in real-time. Moments later, we heard a metallic sound echo from the pool area.

We checked immediately. No one was there. But we did find a fresh puddle of water on the pool cover that hadn’t been there earlier in the night. Staff confirmed they hadn’t gone poolside.

One Spirit, One Goodbye

In the shower section, one of the team made contact with a male spirit who identified himself and shared that he had died by suicide - possibly in this location - after being bullied for being gay. His partner’s name came through, as well as fragments of a message: “He’s in pieces on the beaches”.

As this came through, the Hexcom suddenly became active for the first time that night. Responses included:

  • Beelzebub - when asked if the presence was something darker

  • Yeah - in direct response to a question

  • France - when talking about where his partner might be now

  • Throat - as we discussed wrapping up the vigil

  • and finally… Heaven

That last word came through as one of our team stayed behind, trying to help the spirit move on. The mood in the room lightened immediately. Whatever had been lingering seemed to have finally found peace.

Final Thoughts

Westbury Pool brought us spikes, movement, unexplained sounds, and a genuinely emotional spirit encounter. What began as a routine investigation ultimately led to something far more meaningful. I’ll definitely be returning.

Until next time… stay curious.
