Eden Camp

  • Eden Camp Malton, England, YO17 6RT United Kingdom (map)

Originally built in 1942 as a prisoner-of-war camp, Eden Camp once held Italian and German soldiers — and many believe some never truly left. Today, it operates as a modern history museum, but the spirits of the past still seem very much on active duty.

The camp is made up of dozens of original huts, each housing immersive wartime displays. But even without the mannequins and air raid sound effects, the energy is undeniably eerie. Guests and investigators have reported loud bangs with no source, whispers in multiple languages, phantom footsteps on gravel, and doors swinging shut on windless nights.

One particular hotspot is the showers and washrooms area, where people often feel watched or experience a sudden drop in temperature. Staff have reported objects moving on their own, lights flickering in locked huts, and the strong smell of tobacco or pipe smoke when no one is nearby.

Folklore around the site includes stories of former prisoners still walking the grounds, a stern military presence that dislikes being challenged, and occasional EVP responses that hint at unrest — particularly around the sleeping quarters.

Eden Camp is layered with emotion, memory, and just enough residual chaos to keep even seasoned investigators on their toes. It’s a history lesson with a haunted twist.
